{"id":2,"date":"2023-10-25T12:01:00","date_gmt":"2023-10-25T12:01:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.edtech.ut.ee\/csaied\/?page_id=2"},"modified":"2024-02-22T10:48:38","modified_gmt":"2024-02-22T10:48:38","slug":"sample-page","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.edtech.ut.ee\/csaied\/","title":{"rendered":"Home"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Introducing the Critical Studies of AI and Education<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The critical studies of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is now a well-established research domain, with a growing research community, at least one journal (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/criticalai.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Critical AI<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">), various conferences (e.g., <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/facctconference.org\/?gclid=Cj0KCQjwy4KqBhD0ARIsAEbCt6jla-Ns6M3rDw9m5Cz9jWLYonXXqykCbbyW8z3s9xMMMOu-Ms1ctWkaAmAwEALw_wcB\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ACM FAccT<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">), and a handbook (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.e-elgar.com\/shop\/gbp\/handbook-of-critical-studies-of-artificial-intelligence-9781803928555.html\">Lindgren, 2023<\/a>).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meanwhile, AI is increasingly impacting on education (AI&amp;ED), with promises of enhancing learning experiences and outcomes (as explored by the well-established AIED research community, journal and conference), and increasing calls for the teaching of AI literacy.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, as many of us are aware, all of this raises complex and controversial issues \u2013 such as the impact of AI on teacher empowerment and student agency, the \u2018personalization\u2019 of education, datafication, data privacy and ownership, safety, biometric surveillance, AIED colonialism, commercialization of education, ethical practices and policy, to name a few.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yet, while important work is beginning to emerge (conducted by many of you, the researchers addressed in this concept note), the critical studies of AI and education research community is fragmented.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pockets of exciting work are happening at universities and other organisations around the world, but there are limited opportunities for us to share ideas, to establish collaborations, or to give voice to our work. In particular, there are no obvious journals, no conferences, and as yet no handbook.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Accordingly, this concept note introduces two related opportunities. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">First, a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.edtech.ut.ee\/csaied\/introducing-the-symposium\/\">one-day online symposium<\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Second, we have been contracted (Edward Elgar Publishers) to edit a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.edtech.ut.ee\/csaied\/handbook-of-csaied\/\">Handbook of Critical Studies of AI and Education<\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
